State lawmakers are looking at how inadequate crop insurance, property tax assessments and the summer drought are affecting Indiana farmers.
State Senator Jean Leising of Oldenburg says legislators are gathering information in an effort to determine how best to aid farmers.
She says they hope to indentify possible supplemental insurance for farmers among other possibilities.
Meanwhile–Purdue University Agricultural Economics Professor Dr. Larry DeBoer says farmers are also getting hit by higher assessments.
DeBoer says the drought and higher assessed values will have a ripple effect on Indiana farmers for years to come.
