Minimum Student Requirement

 

The Noncredit courses offered through Vincennes University have a minimum student requirement for a class to be offered. Enrollment is limited so round up your friends and encourage them to register early.

Non-Credit Refund Policy

 

A refund for a noncredit class will be given ONLY when the notification of withdrawal is received at least one business day prior to the beginning of the noncredit class. Should this date fall on a weekend, a day the University is closed, or a holiday, then the notification must be made on the last workday prior to closing. Notification must be made to the office in which the noncredit registration was originally processed: the Advising Center.

Cancellations

 

The advising center may cancel a course if registration requirements are not met. Cancellations will be made by noon on the workday prior to the course start date. Those who have enrolled in the class will be notified and a full refund of class fees will be made.

Closing Policy

When Vincennes University is closed due to bad weather, all noncredit classes will also be cancelled. Please listen to WVUB for closing information and watch your email for notification from your instructor.

CAC 108:    Beginning Microsoft Word 2010

Beginning Microsoft Word teaches the basic and advanced skills needed to us Microsoft Word, including composition, editing, formatting, and layout. A focus on hands-on instruction enables the student to leave with not just a basic understanding of Microsoft Word, but also experience in its use in a variety of applications. CEN 151:    Basic Home Cooking: Decorating                  Christmas Cookies

 

Would you like to learn the tricks that will allow you to jazz up your Christmas Cookies?   Then you should attend our class on decorating Christmas Cookies.  Find out how easy it is to convert the plain into the exciting.  Join Linda Rich for this exciting opportunity to learn how to add pizzazz to your holiday baked goods. The class will meet one Thursday evening for two hours.

 

CAC 240:    iPhone & iPad Basics

 

This class will help first time users of iPads and iPhones enter the world of Macintosh. You will learn how to check email, watch streaming movies, browse the web, share personal photos, and read books.  You will learn what an app is along with how to install, organize, and delete it. We’ll take a look at some of the best free apps. It’s all available on the iPad and iPhone and waiting for you. Make sure to bring your devise with you! CAC 300:    Adobe Photoshop CS5

 

The student in this class will learn the very basic tools available in Photoshop with the goal of producing photographs and other artworks of the highest quality. Topics covered will include but not be limited to basic digital photography, photographic color correction, RAW processing, image manipulation, color printing, digital painting and much more.                    Have No Boundaries

 

This class will emphasize the importance of decorating a home with color and style, extending your decorating flare to your outside surroundings of your home. CEN 256:    Fresh Flower Design: Fall Harvest

This class will be featuring designs and recipes for the Fall Harvest Season. Students will create a willow and grapevine wreath for the door from harvest materials from the local area. Students will see two floral designs made, and then learn to make coordinating table scape’s and floral designs using sunflowers and other fall accents. There will be refreshments and table scape’s created in the seasonal “theme” for the evening. This is a “make it and take it” class. CEN 257:    Fresh Flower Design: Thanksgiving

CEN 267:    Dog Obedience Training

Learn how to control your dog by teaching him/her the basic commands of heel, sit, stay, down, and come.  Work with a show-dog trainer in a group setting.  Dog must be at least six-months old.  Pam Kershner does not teach the dogs but does teach the owners how to get the dog to obey the owner’s commands.  Pam has been grooming and showing dogs for over 20 years. CEN 405:    Beginning Digital Photography

 

This Beginners photography class will teach you the core knowledge you need to take the photographs you want!   You will enhance your photography skills so that you can take more professional looking photos.  Learn camera functions, composition, how to avoid common mistakes, depth of field, exposure, the use of lighting, and how to pose for photos. Bring your own digital SLR or point and shoot digital camera (a manual mode function is preferable, but not required). Note: The Deadline to register (complete with payment) is September 5th.

CEN 410:    Intermediate Digital Photography

 

Take your photography to another level. This course will include hands on, on-location demonstrations to help you improve your wedding, sports and nature photography skills. The focus of this course is photography, not Photoshop/graphic arts. Advanced students seeking in-depth Photoshop lessons are encouraged to take Vincennes University’s Photoshop for credit course. You will need to bring a Digital Camera that has Manual settings, your camera manual, memory cards and comfortable walking shoes. Areas covered in this class:

    * General controls and how to use them.
    * Composition.
    * Critiquing photographs.
    * Exposure including, Exposure Modes, Exposure                                    Compensation, Shutter Speed, Aperture (f-Stop),             Metering, Histograms, ISO, etc.
     * Flash Photography and Flash Exposure.
     * Camera settings for common situations.
     * Choosing the best ISO, exposure mode, file type, focus                      mode, lenses and resolution & compression settings.
     * Different file types (JPEG, RAW, TIFF) and choosing the                      best for you.
     * Minimal Photoshop editing /graphic arts

CEN 501:   Beginning Ceramics

 

In this class the emphasis will be on fun! The instructor, Phillip Merydith, intends to create a laid back atmosphere and will cater to the beginner. Novice students who want their time in the studio to be a bit more serious are welcome as well. The student will learn how to make pots on the potter’s wheel and learn hand building techniques to construct ceramic forms. The student will also learn the art of glazing their work and assist instructor with loading and firing of their work in the kilns. At the end of the 8-week session the student will a have a general knowledge of materials and techniques along with variety usable pots or interesting ceramic sculptures. The ceramic studio is a fun and safe place to work and is based on a community setting.  Phillip has studied ceramics at VU. A block of clay and a tool kit are required for the class; they are NOT included in the price.

CEN: 595   Role-Playing Games, Design and Theory

This course explores the history, theory, play, and design of Role-Playing games using both traditional lectures and problem based learning. By the end of the course the students will have designed their own Role-Playing Game. CEN 876:    Introduction to Medicaid Planning

 

Nearly 2/3 of nursing home care in Indiana is paid for by Medicaid.  On average, a single person in a nursing home exhausts his or her assets in 13 weeks.  This course will provide an introduction to the rules for obtaining Medicaid eligibility for nursing home resident.  Planning strategies which are available to preserve assets when a spouse is in a nursing home will be discussed along with strategies to transfer assets to children both before and after entry into a nursing home.  Daniel L. Siewers is a Vincennes attorney with HartBell, LLC. He has helped numerous clients obtain Medicaid eligibility through Medicaid Planning. CEN 776:   Getting the Most From Your Medicare

 

This is an introductory course on the Medicare healthcare system for new enrollees and family members. Each ‘part’ of Medicare will be discussed, along with ways a beneficiary can save money. Learn the basics about Wills and Trusts, what they are, how they operate, what assets are affected by their use, and how they can help accomplish your financial goals.  Jill Doggett is a partner at HartBell, LLC.  CEN 837:    Middle Eastern Dance

 Are you looking for a different kind of exercise?  This course will introduce you to the fundamental movements of what Americans call belly dance.  We will cover basic stance, part isolations, and upper and lower body dance moves.  We will learn two choreographies, including a veil dance.  This ancient dance form was created by women, for women, and though at times sensual, is not meant to be erotic.  Previous dance experience is not necessary.  Dress comfortably.  The instructor, Lori Netti, has studied and performed Turkish, Egyptian, cabaret and folk style dancing for more than eleven years. CEN 897:   Scrapbooking

 

Beginners will learn to preserve their photos safely in albums to enjoy for years to come.  Both beginners and advanced students will learn how to use scrapbook tools, short cuts and the importance of journaling their stories along with their photos.  Students should bring their photos, memorabilia, and supplies they wish to use in their albums.  If they do not have an album or supplies, Creative Memories products may be purchased at the first class.  The instructor, Joni Dickerson, has been a Creative Memories consultant for more than 8 years, and has taught this course at VU for 8 years. A challenging 50 minute non-contact cardio workout which includes throwing punches, kicking and intervals of hi/low aerobics such as grapevines, jumping jacks. CEN 655:     Step-n-Tone

This 50 minute class is an energizing step workout that uses a height-adjustable step and simple movements on, over and around the step. The class will also utilize bands, dumbbells, weights, and/or stability balls. Get the benefits of a cardiovascular workout and toning, in one class.
