VU to Continue Pursuit of French Village Project

Posted on November 8th, 2018

Vincennes University will look to continue┬áits expansion into the city’s historic district next week.

University representatives will appear before the Historic Review Board at their meeting Tuesday night, requesting approval to tear down a total of 15 properties along Hart, Shelby, North 1st and North 2nd Streets.

Likewise, VU will also be requesting approval to renovate the homes located at 615 and 617 North 1st Street, as well as approval for a new construction of campus housing.

That housing, coined The French Village, would be a $15 Million project with an endgame of constructing four blocks worth of french-style houses to house students.

At previous meetings, concern has been expressed about the project by members of the public. Members of the Historic Review Board have reserved comment, as no official requests had been made by the University to move forward with the project, outside of the demolition of 600 and 602 North 1st Street.

The HRB will meet at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13th.
