The Vincennes University Relay for Life team and the Pink Platoon Relay for Life team will be cosponsoring a Bluegrass Gospel Concert on Wednesday, February 29, 2012. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Red Skelton Performing Arts Center Theatre. Admission is $5 and general admission tickets are available at the Red Skelton Box Office (students with a VU ID can pick up a free ticket). All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.
The Bluegrass Gospel Concert will feature four area groups donating their time and efforts to this worthwhile cause. White Knuckles a group comprised of Joe and Bertha Sumner, Rick Mayo and Jonathan Shepard. Backroads, a group featuring Jim & Lynna Woolsey and David Foster. Also groups The Bunkum Valley Boys and Prairie Creek.
VU Choir Concert
Sunday, February 26th @ 3pm the Vincennes University Choir will present “Broadway Musicals in the 21st Century” Tickets are $5 for adults. Tickets may be purchased at the Red Skelton Box Office.
KNOX COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY HAS A NEW PROGRAM FOR KIDS
Paws for Kids is for children ages 6 and up and will take place at 10am on the 1st Saturday of each month at the Knox County Humane Society at 405 “C” Main Street in Vincennes. Kids will have fun learning about animals with games, stories, arts and crafts and of course animals.The activity is free, but space is limited. For questions and/or to make a reservation call Lois at 882-1448.
February Natural Gardeners Club Gathering
Leap into the 2012 gardening season at the Leap Day Gathering of the Natural Gardeners Club! Join us on the evening of Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at the Bloebaum-Fuller Annex, on 7th Street across from the Knox County Public Library in Vincennes. This gathering will include our annual Seed Exchange. Those wishing to participate in the Seed Exchange, please bring seed that is labeled with the date collected (if it is not in a packet), name of the variety, and any other useful information. Also bring small bags or other containers for any loose seed you wish to take home. There will also be announcements of upcoming events and possible involvement in some events, as well as other garden-related discussion. The meeting, and Seed Exchange, will begin about 7:00 p.m. Eastern time.
A pitch-in dinner will precede the meeting, starting at 6:00 p.m. Eastern, or any time participants arrive, until meeting time. Anyone who would like to participate in the pitch-in need only bring food to share and their own beverage. One’s own place serving is optional, and a sustainable choice, but plates and other tableware are also provided.
Anyone interested is welcome to attend. The Natural Gardeners Club is a network of people in the Vincennes area who are interested in organic gardening and sustainable living. We share experiences, stories, advice, laughter, garden produce, and resources. Members range from those thinking about gardening to those with years of experience, and meetings are very casual.

Lincoln High School Winter Sports Banquet
Tickets are now on sale for the Winter Sports Banquet. The Banquet will be held in the LHS Cafeteria March 13, at 6:30. This banquet is for any Wrestler, Swimmer, Cheerleader, Girls Basketball, or Boys Basketball player, Coach or Manager. All student/athletes, managers and Coaches must come to the Athletic Office to pick up their ticket. We have to know how many players are coming to the Banquet, so you must stop by and get your free ticket. Parents must buy tickets ahead of time in the Athletic office at Lincoln. The cost of the tickets are $9.50. Please listen to this part of the announcement. The deadline to purchase tickets for the meal will be March 6th, no exceptions. You Must have a ticket to attend the Banquet! Get your tickets now!
Amphitheatre hosts auditions for new Lincoln musical
LINCOLN CITY, IND.—-Auditions for the new musical about Lincoln’s Indiana boyhood years will take place in February.
The 1500-seat, roofed Lincoln Amphitheatre will host two auditions for A. Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale, a new Lincoln musical written and directed by Ken Jones.
Lincoln City, Indiana: Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial’s Nancy Hanks Hall, 2916 E South St., Friday, February 17 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. CST and Saturday, February 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. CST.
A. Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale will feature a cast of approximately 32 members with additional extra roles. There are roles for children ages ten and older and adult roles available. Interested actors and dancers do not need to set up an appointment, and should block out the full three hours scheduled for auditions. Lincoln Amphitheatre will be auditioning for singing, non-singing, extra, and dancer only roles. All roles are paid positions. JUMP ROPE WORKSHOP
The High Hoppin’ Hoosiers jump rope team is holding a workshop February 28th and 29th from 5:00 – 7:00pm at the South Knox High School Gym. The workshop will teach jump skills and tricks and prepare the individual to try out for the 2012 team. Cost of the workshop is $25.00 which includes a beaded jump rope for the individual to keep. Jumpers are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes and shoes and bring a water bottle. Everyone is invited to attend the workshop, regardless if they want to try out for the team.

VU Accounting students to prepare tax returns
VINCENNES, Ind. – Vincennes University students majoring in accounting will be preparing tax returns for persons in the community and VU students. The students, under the direction of Lisa Nash, assistant professor, are certified by testing through the IRS.
This free service is part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service. Preparation ends March 1. The service will also be offered on two Saturdays, Jan. 28 and Feb. 4.
Students prepare 1040EZ, 1040A, 1040 with schedules A, B, C-EZ, D, child and dependent care credit, and education credits. The returns are filed electronically with direct deposit available if desired.

Community Easter Service
Local churches are conducting a community-wide Easter service on April 8, 2012 at 9:30am at the North Daviess High School, 5494 E SR 58, Elnora, IN 47529. This is a Christian denomination service. Friends Book Sale 2/24/2012 Fortnightly 9-4
There are hundreds of fiction and non-fiction books available in all genres and subject areas. Hardback books are $1.00 each and paperback books are 50 cents each. Friends of the Knox County Public library are sponsoring this sale. All proceeds are used to aid, enhance and support library services. Friends wish to thank all of the kind donors of books who make these sales possible.
Book Sales will now be held on the last Friday of each month.
Cargill 20th Annual Quiz Bowl for Literacy 2/25/2012 Shircliff Auditorium – VU 9 a.m.
Thanks to Cargill, Inc. The Knox County Public Library will host the 20th Quiz Bowl February 25th to raise funds for the KCPL Adult Literacy Program. Team registrations are due January 30th. Any civic group, church or business that is interested in sponsoring a team should call Judy Kratzner, 812-886-4380 ext. 34 for a team registration form and information on the event. A team sponsorship is $150. A team consists of a minimum of four players and a captain/alternate. A light breakfast buffet and lunch are provided for participant teams and volunteers.
The event is held at Shircliff Auditorium, Vincennes University. Start time is 9 a.m. and for those who progress through the rounds to the final, end time is about 2 p.m. Guests are welcome to cheer on their friends and family playing. Persons who would like to play but do not have a team are invited to place their names on a list of reserves. The Friends of the Library will have a book sale on site.
Storytime: Evening Stars are on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. and Morning Stars are on Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. Both are in the Youth Department for children up to 6 years of age.
Babygarten will begin on Tuesday, March 6, at 10 am in the Youth Department. Babies, walkers through 18 months and their care providers will enjoy songs, bounces, a story, and a time for socialization and play! Occasionally a craft for child development will be made or a baby memento. Call 886-4380 to register.
