Fortnightly Tea
Begin the season of romance at a turn of the century tea hosted by Fortnightly Club members on Saturday, February 11, at 2pm at the Fortnightly, 421 N. 6th Street, Vincennes.
The festive tea features the vocalist, Robin Smith. An I.U. Doctoral Candidate, Robin Smith will sing the works of Tin Pan Alley songwriters, Albert and Harry Von Tilzer. Songs written by the Von Tilzer brothers include popular American standards such as A Bird in a Gilded Cage, Wait Till the Sun Shines Nellie, Put Your Arms Around Me Honey and Take Me Out to the Ballgame.
Tea goers will partake of a variety of delectable sandwiches, cakes, crumpets and tea. Tickets are $10.00 each and may be purchased at the library, 502 N. 7th Street in Vincennes. The library’s phone number is 886-4380.
The Fortnightly Club and the public library have worked together in support of culture and education for 121 years. The Fortnightly Tea on February 11 is another cooperative event for the two organizations.

BENEFIT BREAKFAST for BRIANNA
A Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser to help offset Brianna Nichole Clouse’s medical expenses will be held Saturday, February 11th at the Knox County Shrine Club at 1502 College Avenue in Vincennes. The breakast will be from 7am to 10am on the 11th.A $5 donation will be accepted at the door. Brianna is a 3rd Grader at Vigo Elementary who was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and is receiving treatments at Riley Children’s Hospital. Attention “Flappers” A Roaring 20′s Valentine’s Day Dinner is planned….
The Vincennes State Historic Sites are having a 1920′s themed Valentine’s Day dinner on February 14th at Adam’s Coliseum. Dinner is being catered by Procopio’s (Lasagna, cheese tortellini, salad, tea and dessert). Entertainment will be provided by the Lincoln High School jazz band and the Old Town Players will present a mystery. A beer, wine and a signature cocktail cash bar is available. Have your photo taken with a Model-t. The program is from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. Tickets are $40.00 per person. Deadline for tickets is February 8th. KNOX COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY HAS A NEW PROGRAM FOR KIDS
Paws for Kids is for children ages 6 and up and will take place at 10am on the 1st Saturday of each month at the Knox County Humane Society at 405 “C” Main Street in Vincennes. Kids will have fun learning about animals with games, stories, arts and crafts and of course animals.The activity is free, but space is limited. VUJC Hosting Latino Music Group Trote Norteño
The Student Activities Office at Vincennes University Jasper Campus will be bringing Latino music group Trote Norteño to Jasper on Friday, February 10. Their music can be previewed on You Tube by using the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZuWSSdHxDQ&feature=related.
The show begins at 7:00pm on February 10, 2012 at the VUJC Ruxer Student Center Gymnasium. Doors will open at 6:30pm. Vincennes University students, faculty and staff are invited to attend for free. The event is open to public. Tickets are $5 for the public and can be picked up at the VUJC Bookstore in the Administration Building or at the door the night of the event. Come enjoy a cultural night out with the family! Dance to live music, or sit and enjoy from the side. No matter how you choose to enjoy the music, you are sure to be in for a treat!

Free Bluegrass Jam is Feb. 12 at Vincennes University
VINCENNES, Ind. – The 12th Annual Old Post Bluegrass Jam will be Feb. 12 at Vincennes University’s Beckes Student Union. Admission is free and the public is invited to enjoy acoustic musicians as they jam together from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (EST). The Student Union is located at 1101 N. Second Street and free parking is available on Third Street adjacent to the building.
“We invite area musicians to bring their acoustic instruments and be prepared to find folks to jam with. The Bluegrass Jam is a lot of fun for both participants and the audience,” said Bill Stedman, longtime organizer of the popular event.
In addition to jams throughout the building, there will also be groups performing on stage in the Food Court, including Mariah Creek at 1 p.m., Diamond Hill Station at 2 p.m., Rocky Rhoads at 3 p.m., and Hawf Family String Band at 4 p.m.
Food and beverages will be available at Grinder’s Coffee Shop beginning at 7:30 a.m. and the Food Court beginning at 10:30 a.m., featuring a pork barbecue meal with fries, slaw, and small drink for $5.99.
Amphitheatre hosts auditions for new Lincoln musical
LINCOLN CITY, IND.—-Auditions for the new musical about Lincoln’s Indiana boyhood years will take place in February.
The 1500-seat, roofed Lincoln Amphitheatre will host two auditions for A. Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale, a new Lincoln musical written and directed by Ken Jones.
Lincoln City, Indiana: Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial’s Nancy Hanks Hall, 2916 E South St., Friday, February 17 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. CST and Saturday, February 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. CST.
A. Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale will feature a cast of approximately 32 members with additional extra roles. There are roles for children ages ten and older and adult roles available. Interested actors and dancers do not need to set up an appointment, and should block out the full three hours scheduled for auditions. Lincoln Amphitheatre will be auditioning for singing, non-singing, extra, and dancer only roles. All roles are paid positions.
Singing roles:
Interested actors should prepare and bring sheet music for a musical theatre song. A pianist will be present to play your music.
All non-singing and extra roles:
Interested actors should prepare and bring a one minute monologue from any play. Actors will also be asked to read from the script.
Dancer only:
Interested dancers should prepare a one minute dance and bring a CD.
A. Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale is a two-act musical play enhanced with ten original songs and score about Abraham Lincoln’s journey from an Indiana pioneer to President of the United States.
A. Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale will run June 8 – June 30, Wednesday – Saturday evenings with one Sunday matinee on July 1.

JUMP ROPE WORKSHOP
The High Hoppin’ Hoosiers jump rope team is holding a workshop February 28th and 29th from 5:00 – 7:00pm at the South Knox High School Gym. The workshop will teach jump skills and tricks and prepare the individual to try out for the 2012 team. Cost of the workshop is $25.00 which includes a beaded jump rope for the individual to keep. Jumpers are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes and shoes and bring a water bottle. Everyone is invited to attend the workshop, regardless if they want to try out for the team.
Try outs for the 2012 team will be held from 5:00 – 7:00pm Friday March 2 at the South Knox High School Gym. For more information contact Beth Newton at 881-9780.
VU Accounting students to prepare tax returns
VINCENNES, Ind. – Vincennes University students majoring in accounting will be preparing tax returns for persons in the community and VU students. The students, under the direction of Lisa Nash, assistant professor, are certified by testing through the IRS.
This free service is part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service. Preparation ends March 1. The service will also be offered on two Saturdays, Jan. 28 and Feb. 4.
Students prepare 1040EZ, 1040A, 1040 with schedules A, B, C-EZ, D, child and dependent care credit, and education credits. The returns are filed electronically with direct deposit available if desired.
